Microsoft's Hotmail service has been around for a long time. The service was tremendously successful in the early 2000s, but many people have abandoned it over the last decade as they switched to Gmail or Yahoo mail. However, there are still plenty of reasons to use Hotmail Accedi, which is why we want to share 10 insider tips and tricks with you!
11 Insider Tips and Tricks if You Use Hotmail in 2021
- If you want to see a preview of an email, then click on the "Show Preview" link at the top. This feature is especially useful if you need to make sure that your recipient has seen all of your message before hitting Send.
- In order to not be interrupted by alerts for incoming emails while browsing or gaming, open Settings and go to Sounds. You can then choose different sounds for each type of incoming mail, or turn off the sound altogether.
- Sometimes you might want to delete an email without opening it up first. In order to do this, hover your cursor over the message in question until a small X appears at its top right corner. Click on that X to delete the email without viewing it.
- If you want, Hotmail can notify you about new emails by moving over your screen with a "flurry" of snow every time an email arrives. To turn on this feature go into Settings and then choose General Options from the left sidebar menu. Once there, click on Emails under Other Services and then choose Snowfall.
- If you sign up for newsletters and are tired of them cluttering your inbox, then go to Settings > Mail from the left sidebar menu and scroll down until you find "Newsletters." There, you can unsubscribe or change how often they come in by adjusting their frequency setting.
- Sometimes we want to share an email with a friend or family member, but don't want to give them our password. In order to do this, click on "More" at the top of your inbox and then choose Share. You will be given three different options for sharing that specific message: send as attachment which allows you to attach it directly in an email, forward as attachment which allows you to attach it directly in a new email, and send as text message.
- If you prefer to use the keyboard rather than clicking on links or buttons with your mouse, then go into Settings > General Options from the left sidebar menu and click Keyboard Shortcuts. From there, select an action that needs a shortcut (such as opening a message) and then press the shortcut key that you want to use.
- If you ever need to sign into your account again but can't remember your password, don't worry! You're not alone - many other people have forgotten their passwords for Hotmail as well. In order to reset it, go to Microsoft's website (link in Resources section) and click on "I can't sign into my account." Follow the instructions there to recover your password.
- You might notice a little envelope icon next to each email that you have not yet opened. If you are trying to archive all of the messages in your inbox, then clicking on this icon will automatically move it out of your inbox and into the archive folder.
- If you want to use a different email address when sending emails, then go into Settings > General Options from the left sidebar menu and click "Send as" under Email Address on The Left Sidebar Menu. There, you can select which account will be used for all outgoing mail by default.
- If you get a lot of spam in your inbox, then go to the Spam folder and click on "Report as Spam" under Actions. This will automatically mark all future messages from that sender for deletion without having to delete them one by one.
